Strangely Hypnotic, the BinaryClock
Classic mode
Circle mode
What is it ?
Why is it ?
Can I have one ?
Can it do anything else ?
What about the future ?
I have more questions.
What is it ?
The Binary Clock is a java applet that can be displayed in a couple of different modes showing the current time and date in binary.
If you hover over the applet (either mode) your browsers window status bar should show what date/time is being converted into binary.
The white blocks or circles are active bits in a binary representation of the current time and date.
Why is it ?
I just though it would be cool to see the current time/date in a binary form.
Beats clock watching.
Oh and the Circle mode was an after thought that does not look as good as i though it might <shrug>
Can I have one ?
Sure just about everything on my site is free to use and abuse as necessary.
download here
Can it do anything else ?
Nope, thats it!
basic, but strangely hypnotic to watch.
But the source code is free to modify and improve, remember code wants to be free.
What about the future ?
Well, the clock should work for a couple of thousand years or so(uses 12 bits for the year), and i have no intention of improving it (its perfect).
I always have three of four projects on the go (note: Binary Clock started life over a year before this page was created, i 4get easily), so there is little reason for me to dwel on this particular one.
Well I lied after five years I have once again used the code.
This is a representation of the binary watch I got from www.timetechnology.com
It is a very good watch and I like it alot (or else I would not of created this).
Usualy I make a big fuss about using copyrighted gfx but ... :)
note to use the real watch you have to press the top button, I saw no reason to make this demo interactive.
The top four leds represent the hour and have a weighted value of 8,4,2,1 respectively and the bottom row of six leds is the minutes, 32,16,8,4,2,1.
If I do get asked to remove the copyrighted background image I will just replace it with my own!
I have more questions.
I love feedback, even negitive stuff
